If you’re considering getting a proper display to get your gaming on, you’re probably looking at response time above all else. There’s certainly good reason for that, but it's important to realize that faster does not always mean better…

IT marketing departments tend to like numbers and there are few areas where this is more visible than in the world of computer monitors. If you step into any sizeable electronics retailer, you’d be forgiven for thinking all screens are identical, with practically every single one claiming a 1000:1 contrast ratio, 250 to 300 nits of brightness and either a 1, 2 or 5ms response time. And, of course, viewing angles are in all cases either 170/160 degrees, or 178/178 degrees. Are computer screens truly that similar? Of course not, but marketers would like you to believe they are, it seems.

Review Of The Corsair K-Series Gaming Keyboard

I’ve been involved in competitive typing for over 8 years (the last 6 years on typeracer.com), and although I’ve seen countless discussions on our blog and forums about the importance of using a quality keyboard, I was still using my laptop keyboard almost exclusively until now. I’m happy that I can finally offer my view on this topic (which is, basically, yes, absolutely you will type faster on a mechanical keyboard!), as well as share a my review of the keyboard I recently purchased: a Corsair K65 RGB LED Mechanical Gaming Speedtyping Keyboardicon (it’s marketed as a “gaming” keyboard, but as far as I’m concerned, this slick machine was made for speed typing)!

A potted history of Cherry

Cherry Corporation was founded in the United States in 1953 and started producing keyboards in 1967, making them the oldest keyboard manufacturer in the world that’s still in business. The company was moved to Germany in 1967 and bought by ZF Friedrichshafen AG in 2008, but keyboards and mechanical switches are still produced under the Cherry brand.
